How old do you have to be to play water polo?
Navy AC water polo is available to boys and girls ages 8-18. There are three different age groups/skill levels; Novice, Juniors and Seniors (Click on each for detailed group and membership information.) Click for a full listing of Fees for the 2017-18 season.
What if I have never played water polo before?
Most children have no experience when they first join the water polo team. All skill levels are welcome. The first two weeks (14 calendar days) of practices are FREE to see if you like it. You must register for a free USA Water Polo trial period membership prior to attending, which will coincide with your 14 day practice trial.
What is the USA Water Polo Trial Membership?
The USA Water Polo Trial Membership is a free, 14 day membership which gives you insurance coverage to participate. Your first two weeks of practice to try out water polo will coincide with this membership. You can fill out the form for the membership online here. Please bring proof of membership to your first practice.
Do I have to be a fast swimmer to begin playing water polo?
No. Players with early swimming ability can start with the Novice group and build on their skills from there.
What do you bring/wear when playing water polo?
You will need a swimsuit, towel, and googles.
It sounds like fun, can I watch or try it out?

Do we have to be Navy or affiliated with the military?
No, Navy AC water polo is open to the public.
Do we have to live in Annapolis to be a part of Navy AC Water Polo?
No, Navy AC water polo is open to anyone in Maryland and Virginia. Many of our current members live in Annapolis, Arnold, Baltimore, Crownsville, Kent Island, and Severna Park. Our Claude Moore members are from the Loudon County and Northern Virginia area.
Can I drive on base with just my I.D.?
No. You must have a parking pass to be able to drive on base. Until you’ve registered, you may park along King George Street in Annapolis. You will need a valid driver’s license to enter the main visitor’s entrance (Gate 1). Find a map here with arrows directing you to our pool.
I’m interested, where do I start?
- Go to our calendar page to verify that practice is being held. Look for days that are marked “All Groups” or “Novice Only” – the Novice group meets on Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays of each week from 6:30-7:30pm.
- Go to Macdonough Hall at the Naval Academy on any of these days with a swimsuit, towel, and googles. You may park along King George Street in Annapolis. You will need a valid driver’s license to enter the main visitor’s entrance (Gate 1). See map for location of pool.

Common Questions for Registered Members
How do I register for tournaments?
After an email has been sent out announcing that registration is open, go to Navy’s Team Unify registration website. In the event category drop-down menu, select “Water Polo Fees” and click “Search”. On next screen, click “Register Online” and follow the steps.
I missed the tournament payment window. How can I pay the tournament fees?
You can use Square Cash and send the payment to $NavyACWP
How do sign up to work at a tournament?
Once the game schedule has been finalized (usually by the Wednesday or Thursday before a tournament), a work schedule will be posted. Parents are required to sign up for at least 2 games – unless otherwise noted.
I’ve never worked a game, what do I do?
The best way to learn is to stand behind the scoring table and watch a game prior to working your first game. Also, visit the jobs overview page for basic information. Also, check with coaches and parents for the next clock/game sheet training session.
When are the practices? How long are practices?
Practice schedule varies from week to week and age group. Typically, there will be five practices a week from 6:30 to 8:30pm for the Junior and Senior levels and three practices from 6:30-7:30pm for the novice. See the schedule for more information.
Where are the practices?
The majority of water polo practices and tournaments take place at Macdonough Hall. Click for map of USNA.
Is there a central location for photos?
Navy AC water polo has a Shutterfly account for photo storage. To access, you will need to request access. You will be prompted to create an account if you don’t already have one. Click to access the Shutterfly account.
Should I add or create a new folder for pictures?
If a folder has been created for your tournament add your pictures to that folder. This will limit the number of folders viewers have to search though. If no folder exists, create a new one and we will link it to the photos page on this website.
How can I sign up for the weekly Monday newsletter?
Monday emails are sent out to the Team Unify distribution list. Once you register, you will begin to receive these emails. If you are not receiving them, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.

What about gear/suits?
Links to the Kap7 and Under Armour store will be in the top navigation when the stores are open, otherwise the stores are closed. Emails will be sent to members announcing upcoming store openings. Are all the games played at the Naval Academy?
No, we travel throughout the season. We frequently travel to Greenwich, Pittsburgh, and Princeton. We also compete in the Junior Olympics held every year in California. Below are some of the pool locations.
